Attractions - Historic Homes and Buildings

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the birthplace of the United States and the centerpiece of Philadelphia's Historic Mile.

In 1776, the nation's founding fathers - including Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, John Adams, John Hancock and Thomas Jefferson - came together to Independence Hall to debate and eventually sign the Declaration of Independence, formally declaring the United States a nation apart from England.

Eleven years later, more than four dozen patriots - including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison - returned to Independence Hall for the summer of 1787 to debate and sign the U.S. Constitution.

The site is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days, but has extended hours at some times. Tickets, available for free at nearby Independence Visitor Center, are required before 5 p.m. from March through December.

This attraction is on the Philly Phlash route!

The Philly Phlash is a quick, inexpensive, and easy trolley to key destinations throughout Center City. For $2 per ride (or free with select SEPTA passes), hop on and off popular stops for easy and convenient transportation to the city's most popular sites. More information >>>
