Philadelphia successfully hosted Informa Markets’ Natural Products Expo East, the largest trade show in 18 months since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Natural Products Expo East, part of the New Hope Network, marked the return of in-person trade shows and consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry events, as more than 800 exhibitors and more than 15,000 attendees gathered September 22-25, 2021, in Philadelphia to view and sample the latest in natural, organic and functional foods coming soon to retail stores. NPEE was held for the first time in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the new home of the annual event.
As the first industry trade show to return since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, NPEE provided a valuable opportunity for in-person discovery and sampling, guided by a detailed health and safety plan developed in close collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the Pennsylvania Convention Center, ASM Global, the PHLCVB and NPEE organizers.
In addition to health and safety protocols, New Hope Network highlighted the event’s sustainability commitment with enhanced efforts around waste diversion, energy consumption and carbon offsetting, mindful procurement and community engagement. Programming included the Organic Pavilion with over 90 exhibits, the Philly Fun Run that took participants on an interactive tour of Philadelphia, the NPEE Pitch Slam Finals and Party, a Thursday Night Concert to support Philabundance, and a Friday Night Concert produced in partnership with a membership collective for BIPOC executives in the CPG space.
“Hosting a safe and successful event this year was our top priority and we are grateful to our community for partnering with us and adhering to health and safety guidelines so that we could make this much-needed event happen for our industry members,” said Lacey Gautier, Group Show Director, Informa Markets’ New Hope Network. “The support we received from the Philadelphia community made this possible and we are thrilled and honored to call the city home.”
Natural Products Expo East will return to the Pennsylvania Convention Center September 28-October 1, 2022. The organization estimates the event will bring $26 million in economic impact to Philadelphia during a typical year.
“Bringing back meetings, conventions and events to the Pennsylvania Convention Center and our local hotels takes us on the road toward recovery,” said Gregg Caren, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The economic impact generated by visitors brought to Philadelphia by the PHLCVB has positive ripple effects throughout the city, resulting not only in job opportunities for thousands of workers, but also taxes that support our vital programs.”
“Natural Products Expo East is a great contribution to Philadelphia and the return of conventions such as NPEE provides needed optimism and economic value to our city, our associates and our hotel.”

“We are eager for the return of Convention Business that Philadelphia has grown accustomed to hosting. The Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia hotel and our restaurant, The Wayward, are conveniently located in close proximity to the Convention Center – less than a block from the Market Street Entrance – so we expect to see many attendees dining with us at our restaurant, or otherwise gathering on our outdoor patio for drinks. We experienced this recently with many of the Natural Products Expo East attendees making their way to us in the evening for dinner and socializing.”
