Places to Stay in Washington Square West, the Gayborhood and Midtown Village
June 23, 2021
The proximity of Washington Square West to other downtown neighborhoods such as Rittenhouse Square, Chinatown, the Convention Center District and Old City put many of Philadelphia’s hotels within walking distance. However, there are a few options found throughout the neighborhood for those looking to stay just steps away from the attractions, experiences, restaurants and bars found throughout Washington Square West, the Gayborhood and Midtown Village.

On South Broad Street – Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts – stay within steps of the city’s top performing arts venues at the Cambria Hotel & Suites Philadelphia Downtown. With upscale amenities throughout 223 rooms, the hotel also features a rooftop bar, Attico, which serves contemporary Mediterranean and American fare and presents gorgeous, picture-perfect views of downtown Philadelphia from balcony tables. Just across Broad Street from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the DoubleTree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City offers over 480 rooms available in a variety of sizes and styles, as well as an on-site bistro and bar, Academy Coffee + Market, indoor swimming pool and other amenities.
The Morris House Hotel invites guests to stay in one of their 17 boutique luxury rooms, each featuring their own unique designs and décor that draw upon the history of the building. The hotel occupies the former home of the Morris family — complete with a charming outdoor garden perfect for events – just one block from Washington Square and the beginning of Philadelphia’s historic district. The 119-room Fairfield Inn & Suites boutique hotel and the 168-room Holiday Inn Express both put their guests just a short walk from the restaurants and shops along 13th Street, with a complimentary breakfast and 24-hour fitness center awaiting visitors at each property.

Newer properties include the Canopy by Hilton – set inside the 120-year-old Stephen Girard Building along 12th Street – with over 230 rooms, modern amenities, and a ground-floor American brasserie, The Wayward, which includes an outdoor dining space within the East Market development. Named one of The Best New Hotels in the World by Travel + Leisure in 2022, the Guild House Hotel fills the former home of the New Century Guild – one of the nation’s oldest and most prominent women’s empowerment organizations – with 12 beautiful suites designed by women-owned Philadelphia agency, ROHE Creative. The hotel features amenities from local women-owned businesses throughout the Victorian-era rowhouse.
Other nearby options include the Alexander Inn and Sonder at the Arco. Most of the hotels mentioned above also offer meeting and event spaces that can accommodate groups of various sizes. For more tips to help you find the perfect hotel for your visit, click here.
