Karly Watson is the newest member of the SMG sales team at the Pennsylvania Convention Center where as sales manager she is responsible for the social, multicultural, educational, religious and fraternal markets. Raised in Philadelphia, Watson returns to the East Coast from Long Beach, CA, where she was an event manager for SMG at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.
“As America’s birthplace and one of the largest cities in the nation, Philadelphia is a key destination for major events, conferences and conventions and SMG offers the structure for great experiences here,” Watson said. “I am excited to work with some of the Pennsylvania Convention Center’s upcoming shows, including the Omega Psi Phi convention (July 10-16), the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (Sept. 24-27) and the upcoming Bicentennial of the African Methodist Episcopal Church founded right here in Philadelphia.”
A graduate of the Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Watson began her hospitality career in 2004 with the ARAMARK/SFS Sales Department at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
In Long Beach, Watson successfully handled an array of events including the TED Conference, the International Salon & Spa Expo, the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, as well as entertainment performances. She was also an integral part of the on-site management of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach for several years. Prior to her position as an event manager, Watson was a sales manager with SAVOR…, the food and beverage arm of SMG, the nation’s leading facilities manager. She quickly progressed to senior sales manager, acting as the point person for larger and high-profile food and beverage events at the Long Beach Center, developing new menus and expanding SAVOR’s off-site catering opportunities.
“Karly is an asset to our team which targets short-term meetings and conventions at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to generate additional revenue for the Commonwealth,” said Stephanie Mays Boyd, director of sales and marketing. “She brings her love of our Center back to the city of Brotherly Love. She has the talent and skills to bring first-class experiences to our customers. We are delighted she has returned.”
