PHL Diversity Mission Statement

The mission of PHL Diversity (formerly the Multicultural Affairs Congress), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), is to provide innovative, creative customer service and resources to diverse/multicultural groups (African Diaspora, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Women).

PHL Diversity attracts meetings and conventions which promote economic impact for the hospitality industry and citizens to ensure Philadelphia is known as a premier diverse/multicultural destination.

PHL Diversity Vision Statement

PHL Diversity’s vision is to promote Philadelphia as the world’s premiere destination that welcomes and embraces all meetings and conventions. Philadelphia is where you come to build what’s next through education, innovation and customer service.


PHL Diversity Committees

  • Board Development and Nominations Committee: Recruit & review board nominees. Conduct mid-year and year-end evaluations of board members.
    • Chair: Richard Snow, Multicultural Marketing & Business Development, St. Jude Children Research Hospital
  • Executive Committee: Oversee all initiatives as they relate to standing committees, membership structure, economic development strategies and hospitality hiring practices.
    • Board Chair: William Wilson, Principal-In-Charge, Synterra Ltd.; Vice Chair: John Kroll, Director of Residential Property Management, Keating Hospitality
  • Education Committee: Provide input into the strategy to support PHL Diversity’s mission to increase representation from Philadelphia’s multicultural communities in the hospitality industry across the city and region.
    • Chairs: Sue Geyer, Associate Director of Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association; Ivan Turnipseed, Associate Professor and Chair, Hospitality & Recreation Management
  • Innovation Committee: Advise the entire PHL Diversity journey of innovation and be responsible for creating new ideas, concepts and practices driving the entire innovation change process, constantly monitoring it to ensure it stays on track.
    • Chair: Tiffany Tavarez, Corporate Relations, PECO
  • Marketing Committee: Uses a range of methods to get the word out, some of which include press releases, radio announcements, social media and email campaigns.
    • Chair: Tonya Comer, Principal, Tonya Comer Interiors
