Wander the streets of Philadelphia and you’ll hear dozens of languages and accents from around the globe. So, it is no surprise that we have numerous attractions that celebrate various cultural offerings from the past and the present.

  • The African American Museum in Philadelphia: Dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the material and intellectual culture of African Americans.
  • American Swedish Historical Museum: Founded in 1926, this is the oldest Swedish museum in the country. The museum itself features a wealth of information regarding Swedish cultural heritage.
  • Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church: This site is the oldest piece of property continuously owned by African Americans. A small museum is located on the lower level, which contains the tomb of Richard Allen.
  • Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History: Learn about Jewish Americans and their place in history at this museum offering changing exhibits.
  • Polish American Cultural Center Museum: The museum features Polish history, culture, paintings and “Great Men and Women of Poland,” a pictorial display of Poland during World War II.
  • Taller Puertorriqueño: This cultural and artist community has been recognized nationwide as a model to use art as a means of social change.
  • Chinatown: This Center City neighborhood offers restaurants, shops, an underground supermarket, a Chinese “pharmacy” where you can buy herbs for healing, the “Chinese Friendship Gate,” celebrations, and more.
  • Johnson House Historic Site: This former Underground Railroad stop helped reform society during the era of slavery, with links to Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott and other revolutionaries.
  • Marian Anderson Historical Society: Legendary singer Marian Anderson broke racial barriers by being the first African-American to debut with the New York Metropolitan Opera. Learn about her life and achievements through this thriving historical society.
