In a city full of fantastic restaurants, markets, bistros and cafes, it is possible to enjoy a meal with your children in tow and have everyone’s cravings satisfied. These notable family-friendly restaurants are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters and their parents.
- City Tavern: This 18th century restaurant will provide a feast for the mind as well as the stomach. Housed in a historical landmark, it was as the “unofficial” meeting site for the First Continental Congress. Just ask your server for some of the history and he or she will surely describe the number of historical figures who frequented the tavern including George Washington. The 18th century-inspired children’s menu is award-winning and includes a Colonial chicken pot pie, meat and cheese pie and apple cider.
- Jones Restaurant: This kid-pleasing Stephen Starr Restaurant is filled with kitshy décor and bright colors, but the real draw is the stellar old American menu full of comfort foods. Kids can order off the same menu as the adults, and there’s lots for them to love: baked mac and cheese, fried chicken, fish sticks with ketchup, grilled cheese and burgers galore. For dessert, everyone can dig into a slice of apple or key lime pie, or go for a piece of Duncan Hines cake with a cold glass of milk.
- World Café Live: Enjoy an afternoon of music and food at the eclectic World Live Café. On weekends, this hip music venue hosts a “Peanut Butter and Jams” day featuring a kid-friendly musical artist (past performers include Justin Roberts, Father Goose and the KidRockers). While the band plays, families dance along and enjoy the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet.
