Croatia, like Philadelphia (home to Independence Hall), is a land of UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Historical Complex of Split, the Old City of Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes National Park, and the Stari Grad Plain.
Philadelphia is home to a small but passionate community of over 1,000 Croatians—a group that famously made their voices heard during the team’s historic runs in 2018 and 2022.
The bond between these two regions extends to the basketball court as well. NBA stars Dario Šarić and Gordan Giriček both represented the Philadelphia 76ers, as did Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Toni Kukoč during his remarkable basketball career.
Looking for a taste of home while in town? Philadelphia doesn’t have a specific Croatian restaurant, but offers a wide range of Balkan-inspired cuisine featuring Croatian favorites like sarma (stuffed cabbage), meat dishes, and coastal seafood that reflect the diverse landscapes from the Dalmatian Coast to Slavonia.
Authentic options include Center City’s Paprica Grill (811 Sansom St.), West Philadelphia’s Renata’s Kitchen (3940 Baltimore Ave.), South Philly’s Stina (1705 Snyder Ave.), and Northwest Philadelphia’s Toska Restaurant & Brewery (7136 Germantown Ave.).
Croatia—a perennial powerhouse in the Men’s World Cup currently ranked among the world’s eliteis looking to finally secure its first global title after a runner-up finish in 2018 and third-place finishes in 1998 and 2022. For the Kockasti, the path to glory runs directly through the heart of Philadelphia.
Lincoln Financial Field—temporarily renamed Philadelphia Stadium for the duration of the tournament—will be the epicenter of the action with these highly-anticipated matches:
Philadelphia will celebrate throughout the tournament with the first-ever FIFA Fan Festival™ at Lemon Hill within the city’s vast Fairmount Park—the largest landscaped park system in the United States.

This citywide celebration of soccer, a.k.a. football, will span the entire 39-day tournament, from June 11 to July 19.
According to organizers, “Fans will enjoy live match broadcasts, music, cultural performances, local food vendors, and interactive activities in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.”
We hope this guide helps you feel right at home in the City of Brotherly Love. Whether you are here for the matches or the atmosphere or all of the above, we wish you an unforgettable stay.
Go Croatia!
